Investment Objective
The Fund aims to achieve positive absolute returns through a combination of capital growth and income on your investment regardless of market conditions. The Fund will seek to achieve this investment objective by taking long, synthetic long and synthetic short investment exposures in equities and equity-related securities (including derivatives) of, giving exposure to, companies located in developed countries. Such companies include small, mid and large capitalization companies that are considered 'emerging', i.e. at an early stage of their life cycle and/or expected to experience significant growth. The Fund will invest at least 70% of its assets in equity securities and other equity-related securities, including financial derivative instruments (FDIs) (i.e. investments whose prices are based on one or more underlying assets). The Fund may also, when determined appropriate, invest in fixed income (FI) securities, money market instruments (MMIs) (i.e. debt securities with short-term maturities), deposits and cash. The Fund's assets may be held as cash to provide cover for the exposure created by the use of FDIs or to assist in achieving its investment objective. The FI securities and MMIs may be issued by governments, government agencies, companies and supranationals (e.g. the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development) and may be investment grade (i.e. meet a specified level of credit worthiness), non-investment grade or unrated at the time of purchase. The IA will use FDIs to achieve the Fund's investment objective and may, via FDIs, generate market leverage (i.e. where the Fund gains market exposure in excess of the value of its assets). This will include synthetic short positions where the Fund uses an FDI to benefit from the sale of an asset it does not physically own with the aim of buying it later at a lower price to secure a profit. A significant portion of the Fund's assets may be invested in total return swaps and contracts. The Fund is actively |
